FLORIAN MAIER-AICHEN @ 303

LYGIA CLARK @ ALISON JACQUES

We were unfortunately not able to attend this years Art Basel in Miami though we sat down with Rory Mitchell, representing Alison Jacques at the show, who picked his top pieces from the show. We asked Rory why he chose Lygia Clark:

Rory Mitchell: 'Lygia Clark was one of the most important Brazilian artists of the Twentieth Century and a central figure in the Neo-Concretist movement. Her bichos represented a vital shift in medium for the artist; as she moved from two dimensions to three dimensions in an attempt to overcome the space between an artwork and it's viewer. She intended the sculptures to be handled and placed in different positions, with the hinges acting as spines between plates. In her own words: 'It is a living organism, an essentially active work'

We'll be hearing more from Rory in upcoming Alison Jacque shows.
